Setup

Before making any measurements with QuickEQ, disconnect or reset the MiniDSP.

Measurement

This is only an advertisement and keeps Cavern free.

For a full system with discrete channels

Complete a measurement. If you need help with it, read the setup guide. After measurement, open the Export/import menu, and under Export to hardware, select MiniDSP 2x4 Adv. You might have to open the full export menu by clicking Show more. Select a folder to export the EQ files and delay/level information to. If you choose a folder that contains a previous measurement, it will be overwritten.

For crossovered stereo (2.1 or 2.2)

When a MiniDSP is used with a crossover, multiple measurements and exports should be performed for the best result. Perform the measurements according to the "For a full system with discrete channels" section, and export according to the "Importing the QuickEQ configuration files" section, with a slight change. For crossovered systems, the first step will be the generation of input filters, the second and third steps will be the generation of the output filters. Because only one set of PEQs are needed, use the Lite export for your MiniDSP model, that will only export one set that should be used for inputs at first and then for outputs.

First step: input filters

  1. Set up the MiniDSP to the crossover point you would use it at.
  2. Set Cavern's channel layout to stereo.
  3. Measure the stereo output of the system with Cavern QuickEQ.
  4. Export with the Lite option of your MiniDSP hardware.
  5. Load the exported filters to the inputs of the MiniDSP configuration.
  6. Synchronize this configuration to the MiniDSP hardware.

Second step: main channel filters

  1. Disconnect the subwoofer(s).
  2. Measure the mains on a stereo output with Cavern QuickEQ.
  3. Export with the Lite option of your MiniDSP hardware.
  4. Load the exported filters to the outputs of the main channels in the MiniDSP configuration.

Third step: subwoofer filters

  1. Reconnect the subwoofer(s) and disconnect the main channels.
  2. In Cavern's channel layout setup, set up both channels as subwoofers.
  3. Measure the subwofer(s) on a stereo output with Cavern QuickEQ.
  4. Export with the Lite option of your MiniDSP hardware.
  5. Load the exported filters to the outputs of the subwoofers in the MiniDSP configuration.
  6. Synchronize the configuration to the MiniDSP hardware.
  7. Reset Cavern's channel layout back to stereo.

Importing the QuickEQ configuration files

Open the MiniDSP configuratior, and navigate to the Input Gain page. Both gains should be 0 dB.

Go to the Parametrix EQ page of each channel on the input side. Work with any 2 channels you want to calibrate with the unit. Click Import REW File and select the corresponding input EQ file for the target channel, like Channel_L_in.txt.

The result should include the first 5 EQ bands.

Set up the routing to copy each input channel to any output channel. The following example is the 1:1 configuration, routing IN1 to OUT1 and IN2 to OUT2, but other configurations also work fine.

For each output channel, make sure both crossovers are bypassed.

Output EQs should be handled the same way as inputs, but with their corresponding out.txt files. Use the Import REW file button to load a file, and it's successful when the filters appear.

Open Cavern QuickEQ for MiniDSP 2x4 Advanced.txt for the correct gain and delay values, and navigate to the Delay/Gain/RMS page. Look for these entries for the channels you want to calibrate and apply them as close as you can in the utility.
Channel: L
Gain: -11,05592 dB
Delay: 3,22917 ms

Channel: R
Gain: -10,63019 dB
Delay: 3,77083 ms

Use dots instead of commas in the delay text field. Make sure the compressor is bypassed and polarity is only inverted if Cavern's txt file asks it.

Click the synchronize button when the MiniDSP is connected to the PC to download the settings.
